This WebQuest attempts to motivate students to learn the parts of a cell by writing a science fiction story that uses accurate cell organelle information.  The Elodea plant ( also known as Anarcharis ) is a readily available plant often used as a good oxygenator in aquaria.  A great follow up activity would be a microscope lab where the students actually look at Elodea cells.

The following standards are addressed in this WebQuest:

Science:  B-2.2    Summarize the structures and functions of organelles found in a eukaryotic cell, including the nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts, lysosomes, vacuoles, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, cilia, flagella, cell membrane, nuclear membrane, cell wall, and cytoplasm.
